A three week interlude?

Well, it should come as no surprise that I didn’t consistently keep up with blogging, hence why I haven’t made myself pay to link my domain name, a domain name that is still “Creating Fate” which is what the blog I intended 10 years ago (and three years ago) to be. I can’t decide what this is but I am writing sometimes and the mentality I had was, “if you keep this up… link your domain name and keep at it!” And alas, we failed.

But I’ll say, I don’t think I did. I think I want to map this space out and get it just right before launching it into the world but that’s not what blogging originally was. It was a spot to just share your life, inspire others, connect and just be authentic. I feel like this may be my call back to that. Where misspelling and rambling sentences have space late at night for a mom to just dump out her thoughts, share fun experiences, and have a hub that feels her own. So, here we are!

After a few weeks of interlude, we are slowly starting family rhythms back up. I say slowly but mostly since new school books for the 2025/2026 school year have been arriving, we’ve been all so excited to sneak peeks and enjoy them together. Which brings me to an interlude and not exactly a summer vacation. I may have mentioned before that we usually just school year round, maybe I didn’t? But I just want our lives to be lived… naturally. Which is why I don’t find a big pause for summer necessary. If we are eager to still read together, keep up with our family rhythms and even dabble a bit in math then who am I to say no?

I haven’t decided if we are going to just start with Year 2 with The Children’s Tradition now, or read a few more Dr. Dolittle books before we do. We’ve started a few bedtime reads, and we couldn’t resist some Nonsense poems, but I’m hoping to lay down a few more habits before Y2 officially begins.

This week I slowly started dipping our toes into parts of our schooling I need to readjust. Things like watercolor and brush drawing, nature journals and the things that tend to fall to the wayside when the kitchen sink is overflowing of someone has dumped the ball pit of 500 balls across the floor but can’t for the life of themselves pick them up. We’ve been working on attitudes and helping hands. I need to work on not being overwhelmed by consistent messes and make habits of tidying throughout our day so we (read please as I) don’t get overwhelmed by the constant to-do’s. I need to figure out how to get my part-time job to fit a little easier into the flow of our days. Night working after the littles goes to bed isn’t ideal, but it’s when I’m most focused and able to tend to clients best. Little and big things alike just need a little adjusting. Maybe I do need a timetable, ha! I’ve been working on reverse planning and jotting down what we have done and it’s really helped feel a sense of accomplishment, even when the laundry isn’t folded and tucked away just yet.

We’ve taken about three weeks off to enjoy the sweetness that spring holds for us here in the south and will gently add in more as the weeks progress and the hot really settles in to keep us savoring the A/C. And maybe, just maybe that will include jotting some things down like this for a blogpost to reflect back on.

I feel like I’m in such a sweet time with my family that I want to be able to have something jotted down to look back on over the years where it’s not lost in the abyss of photos unprinted or social media posts that fade overnight. As little kids become big, as school rhythms change, as adventures get bigger or harder or life just happens, I hope to find this space still here reflecting the peace, thankfulness and beyond that it has held.

So, here’s in hopes to journal/blog/document the days and all the to-do’s and in-betweens!

XO McKenzie
