Here we are, the official first post of Creating Fate and what better way than to start with a book review? For those of you who have followed along prior to starting the blog, you know that I read A LOT. And I mean I read all sorts of stories both those that add to our homeschool and those that are just fun and frivolous for me as the mom to enjoy the creativity and fun that comes with a great story... especially those about an epic love (read as romance novels) or those that inspire you to suit up and tackle hard things (and read this as the lovely genre of fantasy).
This week on my Weekly Reading Round-Up, I came back to some much loved stories that helped me fall back in love with reading. As many homeschool mamas out there, reading for necessity in helping hone and build an educational philosophy and foundation consumed much of the early years in our home. Sure these all were absolutely lovely and foundational to what we were and are constantly trying to build in our home atmosphere, however, I forgot that reading was also a delight for my soul. So rewind to last year, I began to devour books. Mostly fiction, mostly romantic comedy or fantasy novels because who wouldn't want to dive in and feel like you're wrapped up in a Hallmark movie? I for one think it's the biggest forms of connection and recharging that I have experienced in my five years of parenting.
So, all of that to say, I want to start a weekly series on the blog where I do a weekly reading roundup for some book reviews for mom! Sometimes these will be helpful in educational aspects if you're here for following our homeschool journey, however, most of them are just fun books that make me happy.
First up, I started off the week with a reread of Book Lovers by Emily Henry. This was my first rom-com book and I soaked up every minute. I think what I loved most was it reminded me of a few people I adore. It reminded me of the love I have for my sister and although I am in a different phase of life, the importance of being there for each other and having fun along the way is so important. It also reminded me of my college roommate who knows what she wants and who she is and has always had the confidence of Nora, or Nadine Winters. Driven and tackles all the hard obstacles. Of course when reading stories, I become these people. Am I the only one? The love of books and the process of publishing is something I hadn't even considered as a job but if I could rewind time and dive head first into the publishing world in any way shape or form, I think I would have LOVED it. So, here's to living vicariously through Nora in this book. I also am from a small town, so the nod to the small town was also such a fun delight. Yes the romance is there, and I of course adored Charlie and all the bookish things about him, however, all of these other elements are what made me really fall in love with Book Lovers all over again.

Next up, I finally finished Homes Education by Charlotte Mason. I guess this week was a week of the rereads! I read Home Education a few years back, mostly just skimming through when my eldest was a baby and knew after my aunt recommended I look into her philosophy that would be the route of education I'd want in our home. I am going to have to elaborate so much more on this book because it was just such a treat to read and help build the foundational aspects of our homeschool. BUT a huge accomplishment of tackling this again.

Lastly, I finished Caught Up in a Story by Sarah Clarkson. Again, this has been such a wonderful read in shaping and confirming things I already know, but Sarah has such an eloquent way of writing that inspires you to pick wonderful books for your children. Highly highly recommend if you're a parent, homeschooling or not, to show how important the stories and content you are providing to your children. We want to inspire heroes in our home and this just goes to show the testimony of someone who had that rich literature background and how the love of story can be the biggest blessing.

That's all for this week... Happy Reading!
Cheers,
McKenzie
