Weekly Reads 3/31/25

The fact I have somewhat consistently posted to Instagram as soon as I finish a book and report to the world my thoughts on it (usually nothing negative... occasionally I have been led astray). I am excited to start sharing our weekly reads again more formally than an Insta post.

Now, usually on Instagram I only post once I've completed a book and over the last few years I typically can fly through books. This year, however, I am really trying to appreciate the 1,000 Good Books alongside my children as part of our TCT curriculum, but it's really something I have enjoyed as being just a way of life. This year my reading updates may be a little less, they may include more childrens literature, who knows! But as someone who read for school/college, then really didn't read for myself until a few years ago, I enjoy books of all kinds. Educational philosophy is what my go-to is right now but next week it may be time for a brain break and need a fun romantasy read to escape from the big words, heavy thinking and just enjoy a frivolous read!

For this week, our book stack looks most of the same. We wrapped up our TCT year for the most part. We drug our feet over Wind and the Willows, so we are still slowly pacing through, and we have a few Blue Fairy stories to catch up on. In addition, my eldest has been LOVING Betsy-Tacy, and so have I! Total 5/5 Stars for little girls read aloud. We finished book one and have started book two in the series and my six year old steals away with the book to read ahead every night. By morning she has a whole other adventure to somewhat spoil for me with a brief summary, but we've enjoyed it all the same. I feel like the biggest gift with a literary family is enjoying books that I missed out on as a child! This one is fun and makes you wish for a neighborhood to go calling!

As for mom reads, I am still working through Poetic Knowledge (slowly) and The Liberal Arts Tradition is my Kindle read for late nights when I'm not working/blogging now it seems for the time being! I need to add in a fiction read for something lighthearted and fun but I haven't just yet. Any recommendations? Let me know! I think I am still processing Onyx Storm so I haven't even been drawn to a fiction read yet. Does that mean we can start Narnia over again?! I think the answer is yes. And yes, I totally count these as mom reads, too! They may be just as lifegiving to me as they are for the kids.

XO, McKenzie
